I've often thought about turning my sewing hobby into a small business by selling a few creations here and there but I always get a case of the "I'm not good enough"s and discard the idea. Well, now I have a good reason to try to sew for a profit. My Mom is in need of a kidney transplant. She is still in the testing phase and everything is looking good. My sister and I are going to be tested for donation. However, Mom needs to come up with a large sum of money before the hospital will even schedule a transplant. So to help raise the money I am going to sew together some simple totes to sell. A friend of mine is also going to make some aprons and pot holders to sell as well (which is so sweet, thank you again Jennifer). Here's some of the fabric I plan to use...
I tried to pick fabrics that I loved so hopefully this will mean others will love them too. All of these were purchased at my local Hancock's. I plan to line them with a khaki color fabric because I think that khaki looks good with everything plus it simplifies the making process. I given myself until Easter to make as many bags as possible. I'll post pics of the totes when I've completed a few. I'd love to get everyone's advice on pricing.
On a different note, here's a pic of my most recent thrift store finds...
The skirt is way too small for me but I loved the fabric and patchwork so I will probably make a skirt for my girls with it. Take a close look at the bunny mug. Yeah, I didn't even notice when I bought it but I kinda like it even more now ;).
