Today we planted our garden. We spent a total of $20 on all of the plants which is great because we usually spend much more. Of course, if we started everything from seed it would probably be much cheaper but I never plan that far ahead. It'll be intresting to see how much produce will come from our $20. I think I'll try to document that over the summer. In all we planted:
10 tomato plants
4 squash plants
13 pepper plants
1 pack of cucumber seeds
My kids have become such pros at planting. I didn't have do anything but sit back and watch. They had a whole system going -- my husband dug the holes, Jake laid the plants in and the girls came behind him and patted them in. It was awesome to watch them work together.
We let our hens roam free while we worked. This was quite a treat for them. I can't let them out of their pin daily like I would like to because our yard is not fenced in and I don't think our neighbors (or their dogs) would appreciate a visit from our cackling girls. We lost 2 of our hens over the winter. One died from reasons unkown and the other was literally lost. The remaining 4 still lay plenty more eggs than we can eat.
Miss Molly was so good while we planted. She loves being outside just looking at the sky, the trees and all the goings on around her. She is such a good baby and has become so alert, always wanting to sit up and see everything. It'll be no time before she's on the go and trying to keep up with her brother and sisters. Slow down baby! There's no need to hurry.
We also planted all my propagated hydrangeas. And I gave the camera over to my girls and they captured some great moments. I need to give someone else the camera more often if only to have more pictures of myself for my kids. I know they'll want that someday.
