thrifted goodness

It's been a while since I've shared some thrifted goodness. I suppose that's because it's been a while since I've been thrifting.  In fact, I can't even remember my last trip to the thrift store -- it had to be at least 3 weeks or more. That's some kind of record for me. I do, however, remember my last favorite scores...

A pretty and colorful tin from England, 2 bags of Warm & Natural batting and a globe. I'm most excited about the globe. I've come across many globes but they've all been in bad shape. This was the first one that was worth purchasing.

 Now, I believe it's definitely time to plan my next thrifty trip....

 The roads thawed enough to return to work on Friday and I used my lunch hour to get my thrifty-fix. I found all of the above items at the Goodwill. My haul included :: linen and ticking fabric, two very delicate lotus bowls (no markings on the bottom), a simple, pretty white pitcher and a long, yellow striped table runner from Williams-Sonoma (it still had the tags on it).

All of these finds remind me so much of summer. I'm thinking of making some cushions for the dining room table out of the ticking and then spreading out the table runner. It may be cold outside for a few more months at best, but at least I'll have a little summer on my table.

recently thrifted...

Lately my trips to the thrift shops have had one purpose -- blue jeans and warm sweaters for the kids. On occasion, however, I did wander a bit and discover a few treasures.

 

My favorite finds :: a vintage Christmas tablecloth and many yards of home decor weight floral fabric that reminds me of vintage sheets. I can't wait to make something with that fabric. I'm thinking curtains or throw pillows.



More favorites :: a ceramic Beehouse Cream Jug and Daher metal tin,



and pretty Fair Isle patterned sweaters.

thrifting and home improvement

My crafting has been replaced temporarily for a big home improvement project -- new floors!

 

We had new hardwood floors installed throughout our house last week -- an upgrade that I have been waiting for years to make. And the reason this project has stalled my crafting...

 

all the piles of stuff that has to be put back in it's place. It may not look very big but, trust me, it was much larger.

Hopefully my house will be back in order soon because I still have more Imke shirts to complete and share. And it may be a few days late, but I have another craft book that I am super excited to start working out of for November.

I do have one thrifted treasure to share... 

a beautifully executed zig-zag afghan done in a perfect-for-autumn colorway.

thrifted goodness and other random things

:: My recent thrifting excursions have been limited but I have managed to find some treasures.

This stackable victorian dollhouse is one of my favorite finds. Each side is decorated and inside each square is a different room.

 

I picked it up for my girls but I must admit I've enjoyed playing with it just as much as they have. I have a fondness for dollhouses and this reminds me of how I use to make doll houses out of shoe boxes when I was little.

:: A few months ago I upgraded from my point and shoot digital camera to a Nikon DSLR. 

 I've wanted one for a long time and I'm so excited to finally have it. Now I think a photography class is order so I can learn how to use properly.

:: I really need to buy the soundtrack to this movie. Every time I watch it the beautiful folk music stays with me for days.

:: My baby will be turning six soon (I can't even believe it) and we're planning our first roller skating party.

:: We planning a winter garden, our first, and I look forward to lots of greens...spinach, broccoli and the like.

:: I know there are more random things that I wanted to write but my tired eyes are getting blurry and my head fuzzy. Oh yeah, this school year is kicking my butt so far. I know things will get easier though because autumn is almost here and nights are cool and crisp.
